Kimberly Sapp - The Big Event Brand Identity

Objective

As the Multimedia Coordinator for The Big Event, I was tasked with creating a new logo that would solidify the brand within the Tallahassee community. The Big Event Tallahassee is comprised of three schools (FAMU, FSU, and TCC). The previous logo uses the school colors for FSU, often making members from other schools feel alienated. The new logo should make sure that each school had a sense of belonging to the organization and work to unify the schools and the community. I was asked if I could find a way to incorporate the colors of all three schools into the new design.

The Process

I created some potential designs for The Big Event which incorporated all of the schools colors through the use of gradients. Because incorporating 6 different colors into a single logo can be visually overwhelming, I tried to use the colors as accents to primarily black and white designs.

Realizing that the use of 6 different colors and gradients in a logo are not the best practice, I took it upon myself to create a design proposal for the executive board that would step away from the school colors.

After some research and exploration, I found a color palette that would do a better job at representing the community than just the colors of the schools that the students, faculty, and staff attend. Springing off of this, I put together a mood board of images that followed the color scheme so that the executive board could have a visualization of what content could begin to look like for The Big Event. I also created logo variations for the executive board using the new color scheme.

The Result

The executive board was very pleased with the new color scheme and selected one of the new logo variations to be the new face of The Big Event Tallahassee.
